Challenge
Greening: where is it necessary and feasible?
CROW, together with the municipality of Dronten, has developed a digital twin in a pilot project to gain more control over greening: where is greening needed and where is it feasible to realize more greenery?

Approach
Open and proprietary data integrated and weighed
Both above-ground and underground data have been examined u2013 such as cables and pipes, existing infrastructure and design of the public space. The nationally available open data was supplemented for this purpose with data from the municipality of Dronten itself, such as their own rules on distances to cables and pipes and their own tree data.

Share approach with other municipalities
The calculation model developed in the pilot was built with applicability to other municipalities in mind. It is now being further tested in a second pilot at the municipality of Soest. Read the CROW blog here for more information about this process: https://www.crow.nl/actueel/datagedreven-vergroenen-in-de-praktijk-pilot-in-dronten-uitgelegd/
