Due to the worldwide outbreak of the Coronavirus and the subsequent disruption of normal life, we have decided to change the upcoming Tygron EDU Event to an online webinar, open to everyone!

The theme of the upcoming edition is Share & Inspire

The EDU Event is Tygron’s longest running event thanks to our strong and active community. One of the important lessons of last year’s EDU Event (read about it here -Dutch) is that schools like to share their experiences of working with the Tygron Platform and learn from each other. More schools are starting to integrate our software in the curriculum and the need for workable examples has grown exponentially.

That’s why we are bringing some of the best student practices to the forefront this year. For instance calculating water stress and strategic planning of climate proof cities and more. But also the Tygron Student Contest where over 210 students from 48 countries participated to win 1500 Euros!

The program has been slightly adjusted for your online viewing pleasure and looks like this:

13:00-13:10 Welcome and introduction by Tygron (Hedi van Dijk)

13:10-13:40 Maxim Knepflé: GIS and Geodesign, Godelief Abilakh Missier, GIS-specialist: Importing REVIT models, Using ESRI and QGis, WFS connection, Q&A

13:40-14:05 Mendel Giezen of the University of Amsterdam explains how he integrated the Tygron Platform in the course Climate Proof Development of Cities and Strategic Planning in 2019. How did he do it and what are his findings? There is room for live questions.

14:05-14:30 Henk van Hardeveld, Waternet talks about his experiences with guiding students, about his own PhD research in which Tygron played an important role and about the added value of Tygron for the water field

14:30-14:40:  Karin Wilterdink, Aeres hogeschool: Using Tygron in online teaching methods.

14:40 – 15:00: Q&A, Round up by Tygron with room for online interaction. Share your thoughts and feelings and ideas for the future.

Tygron Platform Preview Release 2020

The Preview Server of the Tygron Platform is ready to use! We would like to inform you on all the new functionalities and what this release means for you and your work. We also provide more information about the meetings we organise to get you more acquainted with the latest version of the Platform.

Release of the Preview Server

We will release the Preview Server on January 1 2020. That means that all users will have access to the new features from the beginning of the new year and you can start testing it for yourself. These are the main improvements:

  • Heat stress based on DRPA standard for stress tests
  • Geodesign: improved interaction with GIS
  • Watermodule: improved usability

We will elaborate on these subjects below.

The full LTS release follows later in 2020. When that happens we will inform you well in advance.

There will be meetings on January 14 and 16 2020 to introduce and demonstrate the improved functionalities of the Tygron Platform. Our specialists are at hand to guide you through the process of setting up and testing your projects with the new technology. Getting started 

Download the Preview Platform and start testing the new functionalities yourself. We updated the Preview Support Wiki with extensive explanations on the new technology. We continue to update the Wiki so if you feel information is missing, please let us know on the forum so we can fix it.

New Functionality

Heat Stress

It’s now possible to calculate heat stress based on the new DRPA standard for stress tests. The new model allows you to make accurate calculations on heat stress based on the data provided by Dutch weather institute KNMI. It’s also possible to calculate the ‘sun angle’ based on time of day or have it shown as an average in an overlay. For more detailed information about these features please check out the DPRA Module information on our Wiki page. The trusted UNESCO model for heat stress is also still available.

Geodesign 

Improved functionality for Geodesign makes it possible to better interact with GIS. The new Geo Design Module allows you to show data live from the Tygron Platform as GIS data through a WMS or a WFS. For example, show your own data in a mapviewer and use that data including all attributes in other software like ArcGIS or QGIS for further analysis. Another highly requested feature is now available: you can upload your own 3D models in the existing 3D world. So you can import your own highly detailed 3D models, including textures in the Platform. A great feature to visualise the impact of new buildings in an area and to make the 3D model more realistic. Architects can use this as a way to introduce new designs. For more information please have a look at this short clip and check out the documentation on the Preview Support Wiki.

Improved Watermodule

Several improvement have been made to the Watermodule. Importing your own data on hydraulic structures is now simpler so less preparation time is needed in GIS. This is mainly due to the rasterization of the area. Also expect more feedback on the water system through new overlays and more in depth error messages. The calculation of large areas has been improved. You can now run calculations on specific parts of the area instead of the complete map. That means greater speed if you make adjustments in just a small area of the map. Please check the Release Notes for more information about all improvements in the Watermodule.

Testing

Do you have a project on the LTS Server that needs migrating to the new Preview Server for testing? Please let us know by reporting the name of the project to support@tygron.nl and we’ll make sure that it migrates to the Preview Server. Please note that it will count for the total amount of saved projects you are allowed under your license.

Tygron Server and Network Maintenance

Friday November 8th, we have two short scheduled service interruptions related to maintenance. 8:00 CET we will be upgrading our network and our servers may be out of service until 8:30. 16:45 CET we will perform maintenance on the LTS server. This means that the Tygron LTS Server will be temporarily out of service. When the maintenance is finished all calculations will be executed automatically.

The newly developed Water Module gives clear insight in all water related subjects in your area. Too much (floods), too little (drought) and the quality of the water is all implemented and thoroughly tested.

Run highly detailed simulations of floods and take into account things like breach growth, flow velocity and water depth. If you want to see more of what the Water Module has to offer please check out this video. 

Simulations

Tygron Geodesign Platform in action in this comprehensive 2D River flood simulation. A High Resolution grid-based model allows for a deep dive into the physical consequences of an extreme discharge for both floodplain and urban areas.

Breach Growth as part of a flood-simulation. The breach growth formula by Verheij and Van der Knaap (2002) has been applied and validated. Implementation is based on EU-guidelines. The implementation is unique due to the dynamic interaction between the breach growth formula and 3D grid-simulation. This gives a highly detailed simulation of flood-events.

This video shows:

  • – Highly accurate resolution (1x1m grid)
  • – Highly accurate inflow to the polder.

The breach growth is based on characteristics such as levee soil type and the dynamic water levels on both sides of the levee

Dam Break simulation by crunching big data with our GPU supercomputer, resulting in rapid and detailed calculations. We are continually improving the number of calculation models and capacity to analyze and visualize big data. Due to the visualization and calculation speed, the use-cases are quite different from what traditional engineering models offer.

Planned maintenance in januari

On januari 3rd 2019, at 9:00am GMT+1, we will perform regular maintenance on all our servers. For the duration of our maintenance work, all Tygron servers may be unavailable. We aim to restore our service as soon as possible, however it may continue into the weekend of januari 5th. Please contact support@tygron.com if you have any sessions planned in this period, or if you have any questions regarding this.
